If you want to be a good bartender, you need to have the right tools. Here’s a brief list of bartending tools you should have for your home bar. There are the basic tools you need to prepare mix drink cocktail recipes. Theyt should be top priority when setting your home bar. You probably have many of tools in your kitchen. They are inexpensive and easy to buy.

Jigger: A two sided measuring tool with different measures on each side. They come in various sizes. Good bartenders use them because their cocktails will always have a consistent taste. | |
Muddler: Use for trashing fruit, or condiments,etc. Used to make cocktails like the Mojito or Old Fashioned. | |
Cocktail Shakers: Use for blending ingredients in cocktails and mixed drinks. There are two types. The easiest to use is the three part shaker consisting of Metal mixing cup, strainer and measure cap. The 3 part shaker come in various sizes depending on how many drinks you want to prepare. Best used for home bartending. Use them to mix drinks that use cream or fruit juices. | |
The second type is a Boston shaker that consist of a metal mixing cup and a glass mixing cup. This is the most popular used by professional bartenders. Easy to use once you know how. | |
Bar Spoon: Use to stir ingredients in a mixing cup or in a tall glass or mixing cup. Use it to measure small ingredients for your cocktail drinks. | |
Strainer: Fits in the shaker or mixing cup and used to remove the ice from a mixing cup or cocktail shaker. There is another type called a julep strainer that’s placed directly over a glass. | |
Corkscrew: Use for opening wine bottles. There are many different types. Some are electric. They all do the same job. Remove a cork from a wine bottle. | |
Ice Bucket: A metal or insulated ice bucket will keep your ice cold and clean. This is an item for the home bartender. | |
Ice Tongs or Scoop: Use to add ice to drinks. Never handle ice with your hands, it’s not hygienic. Don’t use glassware as an ice scoop, the glass could easily break in your hands. Not used by professional bartenders. They’ll usually use an ice scoop. | |
Electric Blender: Use for drinks with fruit pieces, cream or ice cream. An electric blender will smoothly blend thicker ingredients together. Gradually add ice and liquid ingredients or it will freeze up. Used to make Margaritas and other frozen drinks. | |
Cutting Board: Use for cutting fruit with sharp knife to garnish drinks. Wash and dry throughly after using. |
